((Holy nyerk, I was only planning a short response... Ok, I'm fully aware that I'm treading very closely on some things that might be frowned upon with this post. If that is the case, then I'll see what I can change while still holding true to the character.))

He stood down, drawing the syringes back behind his sleeves, pulling his hood back, taking up a tome.
He stood down.
Aether encircled him, then nothing but the empty air left behind.
‘What...’
" Move everyone move now! "
And Kashmar felt it then, the sudden buildup of aether around their shelter, concentrating, melding , directed to combust in the air all around.
Her eyes widened in realization and almost instantaneously she drew aether around herself was well, preparing to Blink out of..
‘The girl!’
Halting the process, she snapped her head around in time to see the Asmodian woman pulling the Elyos girl out of the shelter, those two having been luckily placed closer to the escape route...
...and in doing so lost the precious few seconds that were left...
Redirecting the aether about herself in a tightly controlled panic, Kashmar only had time to strengthen her shields a small amount before the explosions hit, burning air searing into her lungs and stealing the breath out of her as Stoneskin managed to hold off the brunt of the shockwave and ensuing flames. Unfortunately, it did nothing to stop the searing heat.
Gasping for air that had been sucked away, she vaguely felt her Robe of Cold flying out towards the deranged man in planned response, ice congealing all around his body as the wave of frigid aether hit, shackling his movements and delaying further action as darkness threatened the corners of her vision, her shield shattering away from the combined onslaught of the flames and her dwindling threads of consciousness.
A vague sense of warning drifted into her oxygen starved mind, warning of an onslaught that could easily continue after the initial wave of fire, of a need to shield herself from both that and the tree branches that were descending towards her now as if in slow motion, adrenaline slowing it all down in her eyes, faint lines of ember red traveling up bark as it split and flew outward...
...glowing, oddly beautiful in its destruction…
...tendrils of dark hair rising up to reach out towards the branches as she fell along with it all ...
‘They will be alone out there with him..’ A far-off thought bit into her reverie, needling into her brain until her reluctant mind had no choice but to notice it.
Gathering the last of her strength to her, Kashmar reached out, sending a last faint request for any aether that would answer, that would throw a raw shield around herself in an unrefined attempt at halting the crushing mass that continued to drift ever slowly down..
…..and
it answered, warmth and a feeling of rightness suffusing into her weary mind as miniscule wisps gathered themselves about her, whispering tantalizing promises of safety, of sweet oblivion, gracefully wrapping themselves about her form in a blanket of dancing darkness…
But the tendrils were still few and far between in this snowy land of aether, Kashmar’s instinctual call to them only serving to offer a patchwork of protection in her inexperience, and she watched a shard of wood the size of her fist break through the threadbare shield and embed itself deep into her leg, too distanced to feel horror or pain, continuing to slip further from consciousness as every second passed, a flit of scales sliding tantalizingly through her mind as the rest of it teetered on the edge of awareness, soothed by the warmth around it…
And the counter-aether about her form consolidated into a clean and patch-free shield, still weak now, but sufficient to hold off the last of the falling trunks and branches, her expert mind sliding tendrils free and entwining them through the path of cold aether that led to the sad little being that dared threaten her so, infusing them into the ice and pushing it further until it inundated into the skin, feeling cells shriek and die as cold shards shred them apart, hungrily pushing further in...
‘Further still, further, further, further, find its core, clean the tapestry of its taint, further, further, ever further!’
And she couldn’t stop the laugh of sheer pleasure that bubbled its way out of her lips, the corners of her yellow eyes crinkling up in twisted mirth. Oh how good it felt after so long! How good it felt to set things to right once more! To nothing, nothing at all! Clean, pristine, beautiful!‘…no…’
~~~~~~
And a curtain of golden hair floated down in front of her horrified young eyes, blue skies shattered from her world for forever more.
~~~~~~‘NO!’
Her hold on the man broke, ice releasing him from its grasp, counter-aether dissipating away in repulsion from his body and the shield that still surrounded her, bereft of a guiding mind to keep it on its path.
And cold terror seized her mind, as all that had ever mattered continued to slip down within the pictures that played behind her eyes…gone….gone…
“
No…”
Continuing to inundate her mind with memories as she had had to do once before during the Dredgion incident, forcing herself to feel the full impact of their pain ,flooding out the pleasure that threatened to drown her within its depths for good, Kashmar pushed the hated taint down with a combination of revulsion, fear, and pain, down to the depths where it was unable to do further harm, down , down until she could rid herself of its cursed presence for good.
‘Never. NEVER will I let you do as you wish again.’
And that done,
that prevented, all of the pains of the world came flying back into her awareness, the wood shard embedded deep within her leg as she sat there among the ruined remains of their shelter, the heat damaged lungs that could still not bring in enough air as she let in deep gasps in a vain attempt to rectify the situation, the feeling of wetness streaming down her cheeks…
Faint fear at what the others around her might have noticed briefly flitted through Kashmar's brain as she finally sunk down into the arms of darkness.
